Whitehorse stands out as one of the stunning mountains along 530 in the Cascade Range in Washington. We were lucky enough to be invited to this spot and got to scout it out a little before the shoot day. This year we had a surprisingly good May, so when I saw a clearing in the weather, we planned to head out and catch the mountain with this beautiful clear sky. We arrived at sunset and we planned to be up all night to get the Milky Way in just the right position. The tricky thing was we wanted the core of the Milky Way right on top of the mountain. It was in the correct position right at 3:11AM. However, at that time of year, the moon had just set. We had about a 5 minute window to catch the Milky Way before the sun started to come up and wash out all the night sky colors with the blue of astronomical twilight. But it all came together in the end and we got to some epic star clusters and nebula right above Whitehorse. Fun fact: this was my last shot of the night.
