I first visited Saguaro National Park back in December, and I knew I had to add a star trail shot with a saguaro to the shot list. The Saguaros make the best subjects for star trails, as they are so solid they wont move in the wind. This particular shot is 1 hour and 15 minutes. What you are seeing is the natural movement of the stars throughout the night. However, our perspective on Earth is that the stars move at night, but the movement we see over the course of the night is the Earth spinning. The funny thing about this night was there was quite a bit of wind that was making the ocotillo cacti around us rub their branches causing startling odd noises in the night. It's always a fun time to keep alert and having to remind ourselves that all the noises were just the wind.
