Ocean of Stars

The waves really are an electric blue, and that magical phenomenon occurs because of bioluminescent plankton in the water that glow when then waves crash. When I heard it was happening in Cannon Beach, I was totally stoked and knew I had rush down there to capture it! Obviously, when you do a last minute road trip to Cannon Beach ya gotta bring the fam, so my mom and fiancé tagged along, because we have all researched the bioluminescent plankton and really knew we had to see it.

On the beach and setting up, we started to see the waves glow as the sun had already set and the Milky Way was coming into view. The exposure on the camera had to be set pretty long to capture it just right, so as we waited for the camera I went to get a closer look. As Daniel — my fiancé — and I walked closer to the beach I noticed with each step the sand started to glow at our feet like a little sparkle that radiated out. I felt just like a Disney Princess and was instantly filled with excitement!!! I was sweeping the sand around under my feet and excitedly showing the family while Dan decided to see how it would react to b-boying and it really made his dance moves electric. It was probably the most fun we had ever had doing astrophotography.
