On the Western side of Iceland, traveling the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, we stopped at the famous black sand beach Djúpalónssandur. The beach is framed by outstanding lava rock formations which really add a lot of mystical wonder to the area. My brother and I hiked this one together, exploring parts of the 1948 shipwreck and enjoying the fairytale landscape of the area.
