Lunar Eclipses happen about every 2.5 years and it takes 375 years before it goes over the exact same location again. This was quite the journey for this shot. I expected that we would have nice weather in Washington and I was planning to go to the coast to catch the lunar eclipse but the clouds rolled in hard. Almost everywhere I looked it was going to be snowing or cloudy. Then I turned my gaze to Eastern Washington in the Frenchman Coulee area. The location turned out perfect, the moon just barely skirted above the basalt columns before eclipsing, and setting again. They are called blood moons because they really do turn deep red once the moon has fully eclipsed.
